The article investigates the activities of military and political organs of the Soviet Republic for the desertion control in the northwest of the country during the most intense period of civil war: from 1918 to 1919. The main methods of combating desertion in the army are analyzed, it is shown that these methods were varied - from educational work to austerity organizational measures.
