The article brings to light the correlation between theological knowledge and Christian visual art which sustains the knowledge of God by means of image series, and its relation to the context of Byzantine artistic culture. Basis for capability and justification for Christian images is also presented in the article. It was established by Dionysius the Areopagite and gave an opportunity to form an icon-painting theory and establish the art of depicting holy faces which also includes Russian icon-painting embroidery.
