The article analyses different forms of nihilism, traces its connection with the evolution of European culture. To the great degree the phenomenon of nihilism is determined by the development of personality, its hypertrophy, which is characteristic for the European society. The concepts of nihilistic mind by F. Nietzsche, M. Heidegger and other authors are discussed.
