        <p>The article dwells on the history of formation and development of Mongolian studies in the russian empire. The author claims the formation key scientific schools of russian Mongolian studies, their achievement, the role of prominent scientists. The author highlighted the outstanding scientific contribution of the russian orthodox spiritual mission in china, highly appreciated by contemporary chinese historiography.</p>
