There is the problem of the essence of information as the most important subject of labour in post- industrial society is regarded in the article. The authors suggest their understanding of information as a multi-levelled construction with the first level of abstract material structures, the second level of realized information as formal and quantitive structure of knowledge and the third level of knowledge itself. This approach, as it is stated, allows giving an adequate appraisal to computer as the universal means of labour and to the social consequences of computer labour as the main form of universal labour appearance.
