In the manuscript is considered an attempt to give a sociological analysis of the role of language in shaping the national identity of the Mari. Under the Constitution, every citizen of the Russian Federation has the right to receive education in their native language, which students are deprived of Mari, which worsens their self-consciousness. Necessary bring education to the letter of the law, otherwise it hinders the preservation of national identity, Mari, which is proved in the article.
