The article analyses the place and role of the category of event in contemporary philosophy. It also traces the philosophical reflection of the event in its evolution from the classical paradigms to the poststructuralist. The  event  is  considered  as  one  of  key  categories  for  non-classical  type  of  rationality  constituting  the ontico-ontological difference. The meaning of the category of event relative to history and metaphysics is analyzed.
