          <artTitle lang="ENG">News as a genre of discourse: A non-missing structure</artTitle>

          <abstract lang="ENG">The article refers to the news text type, the genre status of which, if not contradictory, is quite difficult to determine, which explains certain differences in approaches to its study. News does not constitute a single genre from the point of view of journalism due to a whole complex of factors, including the ambiguity of the nature of news as a media text in addition to differences in the research methods. Nevertheless, a layperson identifies the distinctive features of this media product, which raises the question of the status of news as a single text type. The purpose of this article is to substantiate the status of the media product “news” as a genre of discourse. The hypothesis of the research is the understanding of the expediency of using the combination of genre and discursive approaches. Considering news as a genre of discourse, i.e., a genre (the content of a media product) that forms a discourse (the unity of the linguistic form, events and actions) and exists in various discursive formats (the structure of a media product), seems productive for the analysis of media texts under study. The heuristic potential of the term “genre of discourse” makes it possible to describe the specificity of this media product. Thus, the features of the content side of the text are taken into account, expressed at the level of rendering factual (what, when, where and to who something happened) and conceptual (what is the social message of this event) information, and its structural characteristics, expressed in various formats of information transfer. The research is based on a discourse analysis approach that prioritizes participants’ social cognition in news communication and the discursive practices involved in it, the theory of genres in the Bakhtin understanding, the types of information of the text according to I.R. Galperin. The material of the study was the author’s selection of news texts from the mass media in the UK and the USA in the period from 2019 to 2022 in both “paper” and electronic forms. The study involved methods of observation, interpretive analysis of texts, the method of keywords in the analysis of types of information according to I.R. Galperin.</abstract>

          <artTitle lang="ENG">Communicative potential of hypertextual elements in a research paper</artTitle>

          <abstract lang="ENG">The paper presents the analysis of the impact of digitalization processes occurring in research communication on the changes in the genre features of a research paper. A web-version of a research paper is usually presented as a hypertext structure, which leads to certain changes of the communicative and functional potential of this genre. The study uses online versions of research papers and review articles presented on the websites of leading international academic journals to identify the hypertext elements, which can be considered as relatively constant components of the digital version of a research paper. On the basis of the functional-pragmatic analysis, the author defines the following functions of the hypertext elements in a research paper: 1) technological entrenchment of the genre structure of a research paper; 2) effective organization of multimodal information; 3) integration of a research paper into the discursive domain of research expert communication; 4) integration of a research paper into media communication.</abstract>

          <artTitle lang="ENG">The dialogue of literature and cinema as a phenomenon of intersemiotic translation: analysis of screen adaptations of “White Nights” by F.M. Dostoevsky in the art video lecture “In Your Own Voice”</artTitle>

          <abstract lang="ENG">The article considers the issue of interaction between literature and cinema as a manifestation of intersemiotic translation, according to the classification of Roman Jakobson. The focus of the article is an interdisciplinary project – an art video lecture “In Your Own Voice”, created for the 200th anniversary of F.M. Dostoevsky, which examines the national and cultural characteristics of eight different adaptations of the “White Nights” story by F.M. Dostoevsky. Each of the film versions of Dostoevsky’s story is analyzed as a translation from one sign system to another: from literature to cinema. It is emphasized that this type of translation is similar to interlingual translation and includes various kinds of interpretations, so the film adaptations involved vary from illustrative to less literal. Consideration of each of the film interpretations of “White Nights” is carried out both in unity with the literary fundamental principle, and in dialogue with other film adaptations. The authors considered the film versions of “White Nights” by Visconti, Bresson, the South Korean and Indian versions of the film, Pyriev’s adaptation, etc.</abstract>

          <artTitle lang="ENG">Modeling of character characteristics and their relationships in a novel plot by methods of numerical fractal analysis</artTitle>

          <abstract lang="ENG">The article presents a study combining the methods of literary and linguistic text analysis of a work of fiction and methods of mathematical modeling of the plot. The purpose of the work is to study the factors that affect human relationships by creating and analyzing nonlinear dynamic systems in terms of the postulates and methods of deterministic chaos theory. The research method is to create a mathematical model of the characters’ characteristics and their relationships. The authors chose the text of the novel “Les Misérables” by V. Hugo as the research material. The main mathematical apparatus of the study is based on the methods of numerical fractal analysis; a nonlinear mathematical model based on a two-dimensional system of differential equations is established. In the process of the research, the proposed system will be integrated by numerical methods: a topologically equivalent extractor will be built to solve it using the Takens delay method. The Hurst exponent and approximated entropy are calculated to determine the future trend change of the attractor, and a bifurcation diagram is constructed using a Poincare mapping to determine a specific fractal time. By changing the parameters of the system and observing the changes in the values and graphs obtained above, we analyzed the main factors influencing social relationships from the perspective of sociology, psychology, and history. At the same time, in the process of the research we will focus on three factors: the personality itself, the influence of related characters, and the literary projection of the social environment.</abstract>

The book under review is a unique publication for modern practical Russian linguistics, which grants the reader an effective range of tools for professional linguistic training. The book summarises and presents key concepts of modern linguistics and the theoretical and practical outcomes of the writers.           <artTitle lang="ENG">Diminutive words as social index: “put your masky on” and “get the cary”</artTitle>

          <abstract lang="ENG">The article discusses how the use of diminutives in modern Russian communicative practice becomes a marker of social typification and socially significant characteristics of a person/group of persons. When using diminutive forms of a word, there is an obvious asymmetry between the semantics and pragmatics of a linguistic unit. It is revealed that diminutives are of research interest in connection with the additional meanings that arise when expressing the meaning of small size, namely subjective, evaluative meanings in relation to the subject of the message and to its addressee. The trend towards the use of diminutive suffixes in everyday and internet communication has made diminutives a significant object for observing the social typification behind the linguistic choices. Theoretically and analytically, the present research is based on modern approaches in discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, metapragmatics, and takes into account the explanatory charge of the conception of social indexality and social meaning that are manifested and become visible in discourse in the process of contextualization of linguistic units. The notion of social meaning in relation to the pragmatics of diminutive words provides a significant research perspective in the analysis of individuals making linguistic choices in communicative activity and of their social positioning.</abstract>
