Icon painting: tradition and innovation

The modern view on tradition kind of Russian medieval art – graphic preparatory drawing, defined as «drawing of icon painting» are analyzed. Studied Byzantine artistic environment of the first centuries of Christianity. Visual sources is the images of saints ascetics and martyrs which preserved in the icons of XII–XIII centuries from the collections of our national museums.
