Authors:
Abstract:
The article examines the interplay of scientific, political and military aspects in the Russian exploration of Central Asia (Mongolia, Western China and Tibet) in the late 19th – early 20th century. Admitting the influence of the geopolitical factor, the so-called “Great Game”, on the Russian exploration in the region, the author maintains that the expeditions of the Russian Geographical Society had predominantly scientific priorities.
